We often don’t give much thought to the concept of hope. Although generally, hope is defined as a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen, it tends to infer that the desired outcome is not assured. Other outcomes are likely or more possible.
Depending on the situation, the capacity to hope can be the impetus to take action: to try to move or change the likely trajectory of a situation from what might be the default and likely outcome, to something more in keeping with what we desire. To considerable degree, this requires a certain assurance and knowingness of your capabilities, in order to be able to look or face an adversity, and trust that you have the wherewithal to try to change the outcome.
Having said this is important to emphasise that even with your very best effort, the outcomes of situations are not guaranteed to go your way. More often than not, there are elements that you cannot control that also have an impact on the final results. However, that’s also where hope comes in.
Best wishes, and have a great day!
