Daily Inspiration, for 21 March 2022

The quote is a much needed reminder to value yourself, and to put your needs first. Sometimes, that is easier said than done, as we have already established a certain pattern in our relationships and it can be an uphill battle to try to introduce new boundaries when there had been little or none before.

However, Anna Taylor’s message is one, which for many people, is understood through hard-earned experience. Often when we allow people to treat us a certain way, it is because we want to be loved and accepted, or just want to avoid conflict – for ‘a peaceful life’. However, frequently, the other party does not appreciate the sacrifice or loving act that is being made, and so we tend to be left feeling disappointed in the situation, and may even experience low self-esteem because we allowed something that we shouldn’t have.

Having said this, sometimes we can be our greatest enemy when it comes to setting boundaries. We want to find all sorts of reasons why it would be okay to allow ‘X’. However, and in the final analysis, we know that relenting would be to our detriment, and will lead to regret.

Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:

  • Do I love myself enough to set boundaries?
  • What are some non-negotiables in how I want to be treated?
  • Am I prepared to stick to my guns when I have set a boundary?

Best wishes, and have a great day!
