Generally, we see ourselves through the eyes of those around us, because from when we are born, all our experiences and interactions contribute to the image we carry of ourselves as adults. Unfortunately, negative or uncomplimentary observations always carry more weight and have the greatest power to affect our self-image.
Sadly, and if we are not careful, we absorb the negative messaging of others and continue to reflect them – even when the original sources of those messages are no longer present. Over time, we may even forget that these were not our own thoughts and observations, as we had never questioned them, but only reflect their impact on our lives.
We need to muster the courage to flip the script, to question the negative messages that others are telling us, or that we are telling ourselves, and focus on the positive affirmations: those that we tell ourselves and that we receive from others daily.
Best wishes and have a great day!
