Daily Inspiration, for 17 June 2022

To be liked is one of the most powerful driving forces in our lives. However, when we step back and examine ourselves, to what lengths are we prepared to go to be accepted?

All too often, we go with the crowd, and disregard our own wants, thoughts and feelings, in favour of those of someone else. And yes, it may appear that we have succeeded and are part of the crowd, but inherently and at our own hands, we would have compromised ourselves and diminished our own self-worth.

However, there usually comes a point when you realise that you are not happy or fulfilled in conforming to the wants or needs of others – especially when their wants or needs differ considerably from your own. But you may also realise that you have lost your voice – since you have not practised using it in so long, to be yourself and to speak up for yourself. That is usually when you begin to realise the true price you have paid for being liked: when being true to yourself is one of the greatest gifts YOU, and only you alone, can give yourself.

Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:

  • To what degree does my outer self, that which I project and everyone sees, match my inner self?
  • To what degree am I driven to be accepted by others?
  • What has been the price I have paid in the past for being likeable?

Best wishes and have a great day!
