Thanks to the daily grind of life, many of us have little or no time to relax or to engage in some much-needed introspection. From the time we were children, we have been on the go, and to some degree, we might be afraid of being alone with our thoughts.
We thus go to great lengths to keep busy. But in doing so, we miss out on opportunities to become more self-aware: to better understand how we tick, what phase of life we are in, and at its most basic, who we are.
Perhaps the greatest gift you can give yourself is to truly know who you are – at the very core of your being. Far too often, we focus on how we want to be perceived, even by ourselves, and so we don’t always understand why we act and respond in ways completely different from how we believe we would act. When this happens, essentially, we have betrayed ourselves, as we do not fully understand what drives us, what we truly value, our limitations and consequently, when we should give ourselves grace.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- Do I truly know who I am?
- Am I surprised or disappointed with myself because I acted or responded to a situation in a way I had not expected?
- Do I know what drives me?
- What do I truly value?
Best wishes and have a great day!
