As one of the most celebrated athletes of all time, who happens to be black and female, Serena Williams knows a thing or two about self-belief.
Earlier in her career, she would have been the underdog. A black girl from the dangerous and depressed community of Compton in Los Angeles, who was coached by her father, would certainly offer little opposition to her better-resourced competitors, who might already have been the darlings of the tennis world. However, more often than not, Serena obliterated her competitors and is among the most decorated athletes in history.
Clearly, Serena has talent, but as her quote suggests, talent is not enough. There is the mental game of self-belief that you must also master. In believing in yourself, your skills and abilities, and that you can overcome whatever adversities that come your way, you can remain calm and mentally and emotionally clear so that you can think and act with purpose.
Best wishes and have a great day!
