Why do we hold back?
In essence, to avoid getting hurt: to not be disappointed. However, holding back inherently means that we are giving a situation a half-hearted effort. So, why should we expect the very best outcome when we have applied ourselves fully to the circumstances at hand?
It is also when we hold back that we tend to be filled with regret. That we should have or could have…
In order for the best results to emerge – regardless of whether they are in your favour – it is crucial to bring your best game to the situation. In doing your very best, you will innately know that the results are as they should be. You gave it your best, there is nothing more you could do.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- Do I bring my ‘A game’ to every situation?
- If I don’t bring my ‘A game’ to every situation, what are some of the reasons why?
- Describe a situation in which you held back, whether you are satisfied with the outcome, and why you held back.
Best wishes and have a great day!
