We all know people who all they do is criticise. They may be colleagues or family or friends, that just enjoy gossiping and nitpicking at situations. If there is a problem that needs to be solved they might be present, but almost never offer a solution. Instead, they can list out all the difficulties of the situation, and poke holes into the suggestion of others.
Although they may defend that behaviour as offering “constructive criticism”, all too often, it suggests that they do not wish to be part of the solution.
In our own lives, do pay attention to whether you are a glass half-empty or glass half-full individual. Although there is a time and place to point out obstacles and why suggestions others have made will not work, be part of the solution instead. It is a considerably better and more constructive use of your skills and capabilities than just focusing on the negative.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- Am I someone who only focuses on the problem and why a proposed solution will not work?
- How often do I make suggestions or offer a solution when there is a problem?
- Do I consider myself a more negative (glass half-empty) or a more positive (glass half-full) person?
Best wishes and have a great day!
