Daily Inspiration, for 8 September 2022

In the modern world, where governments assume greater responsibility for the provision of important social services, we are inclined to develop feelings of entitlement, as more and more individuals relinquish their responsibilities to their families and themselves. This can be a dangerous position to adopt, as public sentiments toward certain activities tend to change over time.

The same principle applies to things we view as our birthright. We can get lulled into a false sense of security, and since there are no guarantees in life, we can end up complacent, and even bitter, when experience challenges or outcomes we had not expected.

To be fair, we are likely to experience periods in our lives that are smooth sailing, but we will also have difficult situations to manage. If we try to approach them with humility, wisdom and grace, rather than with arrogance or a sense of entitlement, it is more likely that we will be able to minimise the trauma and drama and have considerably better outcomes.

Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:

  • Is there anything to which I feel entitled?
  • Are there difficult experiences or situations that I believe I should not be having?
  • If put my feelings aside, might there be reasons why I have certain experiences?

Best wishes and have a great day!
