Thanks to our human consciousness, we tend to focus on the negative: what went wrong; what we didn’t do right; what he/she/it/them did wrong; etc.

Moreover, in the midst of a challenging situation, it is even easier to think negatively. However, in doing so, you may find yourself becoming more entrenched instead of being able to free yourself from that experience.

In difficult situations, a seemingly contradictory attitude is suggested: remember to remember your blessings. Remembering your blessings has nothing to do with somehow helping you to find reasons to remain in a difficult situation. It is more about, first, helping you to remember the fullness of your life, that is all of the other things for which you should be grateful, and second, helping you to stay grounded whilst giving you the strength to deal with the circumstances in which you find yourself.

It is important to remember that this is your life. If you emphasise or continually perceive the negative, that influences the quality of your life and the experiences you will have. Having a more positive outlook on life may not necessarily reduce the number of challenging situations you will have to deal with, but your attitude will help you navigate those situations considerably better.
