In every type of relationship, truth is the basis of trust and mutual respect. Telling the truth in a relationship, such as friendship, is very important because knowing the truth will lead to successful action.
Knowing or telling the truth is not always easy, as the truth may hurt our feelings at first, or paint us in a poor light. But we can be certain that it will be good for us, as it can strengthen our relationships by providing opportunities for trust, mutual respect, and compassion to be demonstrated and received.
Truth can be divided into two types: being true to oneself and being true to others.
People who are truthful, tend to be more self-aware: they understand themselves and know their strengths and weaknesses. The greatest challenge is to be true to oneself. But to overcome that challenge, we must give ourselves space and time to listen without judgment, and thereafter, be prepared to do the same for others.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- In what ways do I know that I am not being truthful with myself?
- How truthful am I in my friendships?
- How truthful am I in my romantic relationships?
- How truthful am I in relationships with family?
Best wishes and have a great day!!
