Daily Inspiration, for 7 November 2021

In this thing called life, there are ebbs and flows. We all experience challenges that are there to stretch us; to make us grow. But in the midst of a difficult experience, the last thing any of us want to hear are the words that well-meaning friends and family are likely to share, such as, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”, or “every cloud has a silver lining”.

However, in the moments when the darkness seems as if it will overwhelm us, it is vital that we do not succumb; that we do not allow the darkness to completely envelope us. If we do, we will end up having to dig ourselves out of a far deeper hole, in order to recover. So, and from my experience, the trick is to try to find one good thing in the midst of the chaos, and focus on that.

Depending on the situation, that one good thing may not seem like much, but it can offer us some solace and respite, as we continue to face the challenges before us. That one good thing can also fuel our sense of gratitude, upon which we can anchor ourselves, find some semblance of clarity, and hopefully, the strength to navigate our way through…

Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. More importantly, do identify the things in your life for which you are grateful. Yes, it might sound corny and trivial, but the shift that can occur from practising gratitude can powerful and life-transforming.

So start with the little things and progress from there. Over time, you may begin to see the wealth of blessings you still have in the midst of whatever challenges you might facing.

Best wishes, and have a great day!
