Daily Inspiration, for 22 November 2021

by | Nov 22, 2021 | Inspiration

Generally, we think of peer pressure as something that children experience are subject to, but may not always appreciate the pressures we, as adults, experience to fit in. Although we may be familiar with the phrase ‘keeping up with the Joneses’, we may also appreciate its disparaging undercurrent.

Suffice it to say, the need to fit in might be more subtle and so something of which we might need to be more fully aware, as it can occur in our families, our church, among our friends, and even in the workplace. Frequently, nothing is explicitly said, but through observation, we know what is expected.

For these subtle situations, in which we may not even realise the impact that may be having on us, we also may not appreciate how much the messaging is different from our personal truth. More importantly, we may not even be aware of the extent to which our personal compass has been affected.

Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:

  • Am I in groups or situations in which I am just following the crowd?
  • Are the ethos of these groups aligned with my ethos or core principles?
  • Can I truly be myself in these groups?
  • Do I recognize myself in these groups?

Best wishes, and have a great day!
