Daily Inspiration, for 2 December 2021

What is ‘perfect’? So many of us think we are perfectionists and in our society and to a considerable degree, perfect, and being a perfectionist, is something to which we should aspire. Even if we don’t want to believe it, it is being reinforced in all of the media we consume: the perfect image (which has been filtered and Photoshopped to the nth degree); the perfect home (which is so orderly and pristine that doesn’t look as if it is being lived in); etc.

Although we all know that we are not perfect, there is a tremendous emphasis on LOOKING perfect – which in and of itself, takes a lot of effort and time. More importantly, that need to be perfect is more for others than ourselves, so that they would have a good opinion of us – which no doubt, may stroke our ego and boost our self-esteem. But when we focus primarily on how we are seen by others, we leave very little time and energy to do the inner work on ourselves, and to really take to heart how WE see ourselves.

Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:

  • To what degree am I a perfectionist?
  • To what degree am I focused on being perceived as ‘perfect’ by others?
  • How much time and effort do I spend to ensure that I am favourably perceived by others?
  • How do I see myself?
  • How much time and effort am I spending on becoming more of who I am meant to be, and to heal from past scars and experiences?

Best wishes, and have a great day!
