Daily Inspiration, for 4 December 2021

by | Dec 4, 2021 | Inspiration

As we barrel to the end of 2021, some of us are already thinking about 2022 and some of the goals we would like to achieve next year. However, we have seen this story play out time and time again. We start out very committed and excited about the prospect of achieving our goals. However, over a relatively short space of time, our enthusiasm begins to wane. Life happens. We no longer are as motivated. We tell ourselves that the goals we had set are no longer important, and resign ourselves to the outcome…

However, as much as we may try to make the effort a habit, it doesn’t seem to happen. Generally, we think of a habit as something that we do without thinking. But in order to develop any habit in the first place requires repetition, consistency and discipline – like brushing our teeth before going to bed.

Before brushing our teeth before bed became a habit, there would have been days when we would have forgotten, or just didn’t feel like doing it. Now, if we don’t do it, things somehow feel off kilter. So we are likely to get out of bed, and brush our teeth, to bring a sense of normalcy back into our lives.

Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. When you are excited about new projects or opportunities, and are highly motivated, identify the habits you might need to cultivate to keep you going after the honeymoon period has worn off. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:

  • What are key goals I would like to achieve by the end of this month?
  • What habits do I need to put in place in order to achieve my goals for the month?
  • What are key goals I would like to achieve in 2022?
  • What habits do I need to put in place in order to achieve my goals for 2022?

Best wishes, and have a great day!
