How wide is chasm between who you think you are supposed to be, and who you really are?

That question is one that more of us need to ask ourselves, and to do so on a regular basis. Many of us have fallen into the trap of trying to conform with someone else’s expectations of who we should be: for example, based on our profession, or financial or socioeconomic status. If you have a certain profession, then you ought to live in a certain neighborhood,  drive a certain type of vehicle, send your children to the certain school, maintain a certain physical appearance, etc.

Instead, we should be aspiring to be authentic and to live as our authentic selves. However, and in order to do so, in the first instance, we need to know who we are. So many of us have not spent the time to figure out who we are, but often, we can feel empty, or unfulfilled, and not quite know the reason why.

In this the first day of 2022, we invite you to make a promise to yourself to get to know yourself better. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:

  • Do I know who I am?
  • How would I describe myself?
  • What are my values?
  • Who is the person I think I am supposed to be?
  • How different is that person from who I believe I truly am?

Best wishes, and have a great day!
