What a quote to greet you this Monday morning!
It may seem a bit of a paradox that someone who was famous for playing the ditzy blonde, is the source of today’s quote. However, from all reports, Marilyn Monroe was anything but a ‘dumb blonde’. She was an avid reader, and she reportedly had a very high IQ. However, Marilyn also had a very troubled childhood, and appeared to have had some psychiatric challenges. Nevertheless, and in her brief life, having died at 36, she had become the quintessential pinup, sex symbol and pop icon, which continues almost 60 years after her death.
Although today’s quote can be interpreted as ‘a shot across the bow’ challenging us women to be more ambitious, it is also asking us to address our self-limiting thoughts. These thoughts rarely get discussed, but frequently, have a tremendous hold over us and how we act in almost any given situation.
Having said this, a key to overcoming our self-limiting beliefs is to challenge them. However, that can be a process in which it is also important to be kind to yourself. Also, and if needed, do seek out professional help.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- Do I believe that I am the author of my life?
- Do I take responsibility for my life?
- Do I know what self-limiting beliefs I have?
- Am I prepared to step outside my comfort zone and experience uncertainty?
Best wishes, and have a great day!
