We can all attest to the truth of today’s quote, as at some time or another, we have experienced it. For example, we have stayed longer than we should have in a relationship that was no longer working, or felt as we had overstayed our welcome at a friend’s or relative’s house, and had begun to feel uncomfortable.
To extricate yourself from uncomfortable situations can be a challenge. It can be awkward and embarrassing, and often, we worry about hurting the feelings of others. It also may mean that we have to confront our own failings, which can be a difficult pill to swallow.
Sadly, many of women, and for a multitude of reasons, decide to stay in challenging situations. But they do pay a significant price for doing so, which not only affects them, but depending on the situation, also their children or others in their care.
To that end, it cannot be overstated that the effort to put yourself and your needs first can cause discomfort, but it is far more painful to remain where you are, knowing that you no longer belong.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- Am I in a situation in which I no longer belong?
- What are the reasons why I am still in that uncomfortable situation?
- How might I begin to extricate myself from that uncomfortable situation?
Best wishes, and have a great day!
