I am sure you can recall an occasion in which you were called to perform, and your mind went suddenly blank. It might have been an important exam for which you had prepared diligently. You fought back the wave of panic and tried to stay calm and everything came rushing back.
It is a pattern that repeats itself in life. Panic and anxiety hamper our ability to think clearly, and to act responsibly or intentionally. The moment you are able to relax, you can remember what you had studied, you can think more rationally, you can move more efficiently and better find your rhythm in the sport or activity that you are doing. But it all starts with finding that calm, which in the heat of the moment can be easier said than done.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- Can I recall a time and the consequences when I acted (or reacted) out panic or stress?
- What techniques do I use to calm myself?
- Are there any other calming techniques I can add to my arsenal?
Best wishes, and have a great day!
