Spoken like a man! We respect and admire men who are tough and ambitious, as men are seen as natural leaders, who should know exactly what they want. These traits are not encouraged or admired in women, and any who appears to know her own mind and is brave enough to express her ambitions is labelled a ‘bitch’.

But each of us have an obligation to be our best selves and to achieve our greatest ambitions. In order to do so, requires self-confidence – to say ‘no’ to the naysayers, and those who seek to undermine us or our efforts – and a belief in our own capacity to succeed.

• Am I prepared to go against the norm?
