Today’s quote is likely to be one that you will need to revisit whenever life kicks you in the teeth.
It is perhaps fair to say that we all try to avoid heartbreak: the pain, the suffering, the regret. The need to scrape yourself off the floor, learn from the experience, and figure out how best to move forward. However, as much as we try to avoid heartbreak, they truly become important markers in our lives.
We often think of heartbreak primarily in a romantic context. But the source of heartbreak is the sadness and disappointment we feel about ‘what could have been’, and so can be applicable to a broad range of situations.
Although we might readily recall the fond memories and the highlights of our lives, heartbreak is the experience that tends to change us: that makes us smarter, wiser and better than who we were before. They, more than our fond memories, become landmarks, and more so turning points, in our lives.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- Which experiences have been turning points in my life?
- How has heartbreak affected the trajectory of my life?
- What are some of the lessons I have learned from experiencing heartbreak?
Best wishes and have a great day!
