Alignment. It is a concept we in the West do not often discuss, but it tends to be essential in having a smooth-running, meaningful and truly joyous life. However, many of us find ourselves struggling against the tide where what we think we want is at variance with our circumstances, and so we engage in what seems like an uphill battle. Sometimes we prevail and achieve our goal, but the effort was considerably more than we had anticipated, and at times, the victory might seem somewhat hollow.
When alignment comes into play, we are no longer just thinking and trying to use logic and reason to game ‘the system’, or just reacting to family or social expectations. Instead, we are engaged in continual self-examination, to ensure that we know our true purpose and what brings us joy. Moreover, we are checking back in with ourselves to ensure that our actions and decisions remain aligned with that purpose.
The first step is to make space in your life for you, and more importantly, to know yourself. In our busy lives, that can be easier said than done. Further, many of us do not want to be alone with ourselves and our thoughts, but it is crucial that we prioritise our internal life, in order for us to be true to ourselves and our purpose.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- How much of a priority is my internal life?
- To what degree do I know my true purpose in this life?
- To what degree do I know what brings me joy in this life?
- To what degree are my actions and decisions aligned with my true purpose?
Best wishes and have a great day!
