The periods of darkness we inevitably face in life are often considered bad and unfortunate situations, which to the extent that we can, we should avoid. Although we may not necessarily wish those difficult times on anyone, they can serve a very useful purpose.

During those challenging times, when things have not gone right or we are experiencing a major setback, it is usually an opportunity for introspection. We tend to ask ourselves what we did right or wrong, how might we have better handled the situation and what might be some of the lessons we should take to heart going forward.

However, equally important but often overlooked are the questions, “What are the opportunities and blessings in this situation or coming out of this situation?”

It may not be whilst we are neck-deep in a difficult experience that we will be open to seeing the blessing and opportunities around us. However, they will be there, but you may have to look up, or rather beyond your current circumstances, in order to see them.
