We all have a history, our childhood and adult life so far, which has shaped who we are. As a product of those past experiences, we often follow or continue unspoken messages, attitudes and patterns of behaviour, and even may be doing so unconsciously. As a result, you may be repeating patterns from your past and not appreciating why you are having certain experiences and outcomes.
Having said this, although your past has shaped who you are and how you act and see the world, these are not cast in stone. You always have the power to rewrite your story, your narrative, to better suit who you would like to be, how you would like certain situations to unfold, and by extension the life you want to have.
To step out of the history that is holding you back into the new story you wish to create requires awareness in the first instance, to identify and understand the attitude and behaviour that has been and is likely to undermine your new story. Thereafter, figuring out how to change will require consistent and conscientious effort to root out and replace the deep-seated messaging, attitude and behaviour that have been holding you back all along.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- What from my history is holding me back?
- What is (some of) the narrative that I have been carrying from my past into my present?
- What is the new story I would like to create?
Best wishes and have a great day!!
