Fear is one of the most powerful emotions. It is a natural emotion and a survival mechanism, as fear alerts us to the presence of danger or the threat of harm.
While fear may be considered a negative emotion, it serves an important role in keeping us safe, as it mobilises us to cope with potential danger. On the other hand, fear can have a negative impact on us by making us feel trapped and overwhelmed. It can drain our energy, make us tentative in making important decisions, and prevent us from living our lives fully.
However, when we have conviction or belief in something – something important to us – we can find the courage to overcome our fear. It does not necessarily mean that the fear will disappear, but rather, if we are prepared to hold on and be guided by that conviction, we will be able to walk through our fear.
Being able to act, even when we are afraid or apprehensive, is called courage.
