The underlying theme of today’s quote is self-acceptance. First, do you accept yourself warts and all? And second, are you prepared to have others see that version of yourself? If you answered ‘yes’ to the first question, but ‘no’ to the second, then there is still work to do.
Although we may all acknowledge to ourselves that we are not perfect – that we are flawed individuals, which from time to time life also reminds us – we may not necessarily want our failings to be broadcast to the whole world. However, the extent to which you choose to mask your essence, and to project a (slightly) different version of yourself, suggests that you are not fully living your truth.
To be unafraid and to be yourself is a wonderful goal to which to aspire. However, it ought to be noted that regardless of where you are on the spectrum of manifesting your true self, there are consequences and responsibilities attached. For example, if you have been hiding your true self and projecting an image that better conforms to others’ expectations, you may be more accepted, but to some degree, that relationship is built on an illusion. If, on the other hand, you are unafraid to be yourself, as freeing as that can be, it can be a point of friction, and may result in you feeling alienated or being ostracised by those around you.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- To what degree do I accept myself warts and all?
- Am I unafraid to be myself in front of others?
- Am I aware of the consequences if I show my true self to the world?
- Do I think I am unique and special?
- Do I think I am beautiful?
Best wishes, and have a great day!
