As humans, we are built from the inside out.

Who we really resides in the core of our being! Character traits, such as honesty, integrity, empathy and self-esteem, are not external to our being. These traits are developed in us and are nurtured from childhood by the love, direction and affirmation of role models and mentors in our lives.

These qualities are not acquired with the accumulation of material or social influence, but through the environment in which we were raise, and the environment we seek to foster in our lives as adults.

However, in today’s world, there seems to be a greater emphasis on material wealth and social influence, than on being a good and honourable person. It is thus easy to believe that an individual’s value lies in money, recognition, affection, attention or influence, and not in their character, and also for us to use these metrics to determine our own self-value.

However, it is important for us to realise that as we seek to improve our lives by acquiring material things, in order to live a comfortable life, we do not lose sight of the importance of the inner self, where the true individual – and our true self-worth – resides.
