We live in a world which puts a high premium on conformity. We see this with items of clothing and shoes, which are no longer made for the individual but are mass-produced. As a result, we are constantly checking on what is trending so that we do not appear to be the odd ones in the group.

However, we are all unique: individually made with differing attributes, characteristics, skills and perspectives. Trying to conform robs not only you of your uniqueness and individuality, it may also cause you to become ashamed of who you are, which in turn can affect your self-confidence and how you move in the world.

Having said this, it is extremely difficult to embrace our uniqueness and celebrate them as the things that set us apart from the crowd. This belief has to be nurtured from childhood, so young girls should be encouraged to cherish their authentic selves.
