Security blankets are not just for toddlers and infants. If we examine ourselves closely, we are likely to find that we have other things that are acting as security blankets for us. However, unlike a child’s security blanket or stuffed toy that offers comfort and reassurance, yours may be holding you back from accepting or fully applying yourself to an opportunity.
Often, what is holding you back is fear of the unknown. And what we do is that we try to pursue the new opportunity whilst holding on to something else – in other words, hedge our bets, in the hope that we keep a fallback position if the new opportunity fails. However, sometimes, that something we want to hold on to is not even great. In fact, it may be terrible, but it is what we know and are familiar with, and so find comfort in that.
Unfortunately, unless and until you are let go of the past, or of a particular situation, you may not be able to fully focus on or embrace the potential or the opportunity that is before you. At some point, after you have done whatever due diligence you can, it is likely that you will need to just bite the bullet. And to do so, courage is the key.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- Am I afraid of letting go of someone or something?
- Am I afraid of pursuing opportunities that are available to me?
Best wishes and have a great day!!
