It is interesting how whenever we are seeking the services of a professional, we are usually looking to engage someone with considerable experience in the field of endeavour. And to have that depth and breadth of experience, we readily expect – and accept – that suitable candidates will be somewhat older, in order to have acquired the requisite expertise.
Yet in the journey of life, youth (meaning inexperience and being of young age), is highly valued. And older persons can easily begin to see themselves as having less value to society.
However, we all are getting older, and are likely to also find ourselves being overlooked, in favour of younger people, who do not have the wealth of knowledge and experience that can only be acquired over time.
Moreover, we, as we get older, should not give up on ourselves either. We are still valuable contributors to society, and in our own circles, we ought to seek out opportunities to display their strength, expertise and wisdom, which we have earned through the years.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- Am I afraid of getting older?
- Am I afraid of being less regarded or considered less valuable by others as I get older?
- Knowing that ageing is inevitable, what can I do to lessen my fears and embrace getting older?
Best wishes and have a great day!!
