Generally, we tend to have a romanticized notion of courage, and how people move from being fearful to being courageous.
In books and in movies, although someone might be afraid, after a period of internal turmoil, the fear seems to subside, and they are able to meet any adversity and excel! However, that is often far removed from reality. Although there may be internal turmoil and self-reflection, the conflicts that are being experienced rarely are resolved. Often, our hero/heroine decides to push through – despite their fears.
Many of us are confronted with a variety of fears: nothing life-threatening, but they will take us beyond our comfort zone of what is safe, stable and predictable, and require us to stretch ourselves into the unknown. However, the trick with being courageous is acknowledging our fear, but being prepared to act anyway.
The fear is not going away, but neither are you allowing it to rule you.
Best wishes and have a great day!
