As a woman, this is a very tough lesson to learn, because we are not usually socialised to be strong and independent. At whatever age we find ourselves, we live our lives as somebody else’s responsibility – daughter, wife, mother – but the earlier we learn to be self-reliant, the more fulfilling our own life can be.

To a considerable degree, we all struggle with self-responsibility: to be completely and fully responsible for ourselves, and to be prepared to accept the consequences of our actions and omissions.

For most of us, self-responsibility is a continuing journey that is often filled with twists and turns. Hopefully, if we are honest, and prepared to become better versions of ourselves, we are prepared to accept the hard-earned lessons that only we, individually, can learn.
