Daily Inspiration, for 4 January 2022

To what degree do you minimise your failings even to yourself? The crux of the quote from Elizabeth Gilbert, who is most popularly known for the book, Eat Pray Love, is one of self-acceptance – essentially, the extent to which you have accepted yourself.

One of the things we may not be ready to admit to ourselves, is the fact that to a considerable degree, we are bundle of contradictions. For example, we may believe one thing about our character or how we would act in a particular situation; but when we are confronted by that very situation, we act completely differently than we had envisaged.

It is not surprising that many of us tend to be in denial when these instances occur. Further, we may not even be aware of how differently we act from who we believe ourselves to be. Such situations may suggest that we are not as self-aware as we think we are.

Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:

  • Do I accept the fact that I can be a bundle of contradictions?
  • Do I accept the fact that I may not have things as together as I would like, or as I might be projecting?
  • How self-aware do I think I am?
  • Do my perceptions of myself match who I am in real life?

Best wishes, and have a great day!
