Daily Inspiration, for 4 September 2022

Today’s quote is a celebration of diversity across the board. All too often, we are all trying to fit in or conform with what we believe – or have been led to believe – is the only acceptable way. This attitude has been the source of intolerance, conflict and war for over a millennium, and is perhaps even more prevalent today.

However, when we think, act or conform to a particular way of thinking or being, it narrows our horizons, and starting with our natural environment and permeating outward, makes us resistant and oblivious to see the variety and anomalies around us. It also robs us of the opportunity to learn and adapt, which are crucial for our own continued evolution in this journey called life.

Hence, since very few of us live a cloistered existence, where we can fully control our environment and who we have to interact with, being able to recognise, accept, and celebrate those differences of others is a critical skill that we ought to develop and nurture. Further, we are living in an age in which diversity and inclusion are welcomed, so are being asked to stretch ourselves and become more open-minded than previous generations before us.

Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:

  • To what degree am I resistant to recognising, accepting, and celebrating the differences of others?
  • How much am welcoming of diversity and inclusion?
  • To what degree do I recognise that I might be part of a group that others are not prepared to recognise, accept, or celebrate?

Best wishes and have a great day!
