In reading this quote, it is easy to respond with an eye roll, and not believe what Melissa Etheridge has said. However, that lack of belief potentially points to a greater issue: one of self-esteem, or a lack thereof. Do you believe you are beautiful? Do you believe you are a powerful creature?
If you answered ‘yes’ to both questions, a heartfelt congratulations, as you may be in the minority. The truth is that many of us women struggle with self-acceptance, which most likely would have started from childhood and how we were socialised. Sadly, although considerable strides have been made over the years, the cycle continues. Today’s girls appear to be under more pressure and are feeling even more insecure, thanks to among other things, social media and the hypersexual societies in which many of us live.
However, and as our 6 November Inspirational Quote states, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now”. All is not lost. We can start to make a change today: to commit to loving ourselves more, and to not just believing that we are beautiful and powerful, but to KNOWING that we are beautiful and powerful.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- Am I beautiful?
- If I do not think I am beautiful, why don’t you think so?
- Am I powerful creature?
- If my response no, why don’t I think I am powerful?
- Is it important to me that others think (and say) that I am beautiful and/or that I am powerful first. before I believe it?
Best wishes, and have a great day!
