This saying by George Eliot, the female author, poet, journalist, translator, who wrote novels such as Silas Marner and Middlemarch, is one that gives me great comfort.
We all have images of who we thought we could and would be. Usually, it starts when we are quite young, and may evolve over time. But for many of us, life happens. We get busy, we doubt ourselves. or do not give ourselves permission to achieve those long-held goals or dreams, or other people and situations become our priority.
Ultimately, when is said and done, we have lost sight of those goals and dreams, but more importantly, who we could have been. The person we thought we would have become. But according to George Eliot, it’s never too late. The question is whether you have the courage to do so.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- When I was younger, who did I think I would have been?
- How close or far am I from what I envisaged?
- Is the vision of future myself still relevant? How would I change it now?
- Are there small changes I could make to get to get me closer to who I would like to be?
Best wishes, and have a great day!
