What a powerful message from author and motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar!

In our societies, and to a considerable degree, we have been conditioned to be goal-oriented – to the point where many important experiences can be lost in the quest to achieve our goals. First, we tend to give little thought to the journey, or the path that we have taken, along with the trials, tribulations and the learnings we would have experienced along the way.

Second, and perhaps more importantly, after the goal has been achieved, we do not engage in self-reflection. For example, we do spend time examining whether or not or the extent to which we have changed, or how lives have been enriched by the process we went through. However, every experience, every challenge, every pursuit provides us with an opportunity to grow and evolve. The trick is to take the time to check in with yourself regularly, in order to become acquainted with the ‘newer you’, i.e. the continually changing you, and to learn who you are becoming.

Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:

  • When I set a goal how much do I pay attention to the process?
  • In achieving a recent goal, how was I changed by the process?
  • In what ways has it added value to my life and to my character?

Best wishes, and have a great day!
