We all want to be liked and accepted. However, depending on the group, we may not always be confident that we will be accepted into the fold as we are, and so the games begin to not rock the boat, and to try to show ourselves in the best possible light.

Both women and men are guilty of this, but it can be a challenge to sustain the illusion, of which the young actress, Marsai Martin, is all too aware. Much of the effort is driven by insecurity. We are not truly confident in ourselves and the life we have made, and so we seek to be validated by others. However, in the grand scheme of things, is that really necessary?

• Can I recall a time when I changed myself for a romantic relationship, or to be more accepted in a circle?
• Am I inclined to do the same now?
• What are some of insecurities that I still have that cause me to seek validation from others?
