Today’s quote may be a challenge to wrap your head around initially. But if you think about it, it makes sense.
For example, being a good swimmer may not be particularly valuable when hiking; and being a good hiker may not be useful in the ocean. Hence when you think about it, to excel in a particular environment you need to have strengths that complement or are compatible with that space. However, your strengths tend to be relatively static – though you can continue to improve them and add new ones over time. So, there will be situations where your perceived strengths are of little value, or may even be a hindrance or weakness.
For example, if you are innately reserved and prudent, these could be strengths to have when you are engaged in some kind of high-risk activity, but weaknesses when required to get on stage and deliver a presentation to hundreds. In other words, it is a matter of perspective, and so you have permission to be kinder to yourself.
Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:
- What do I consider my strengths and my weakness?
- What might some of the settings in which my strengths may be weaknesses?
- What might some of the settings in which my weaknesses may be strengths?
Best wishes and have a great day!!
