When women, or persons from minority groups, for example, demand changes in their treatment, often they are reminded that they had been silent on previous occasions when infractions took place.

In an effort to keep the door open for others coming after us to not experience the injustices or indignities that we have, we need to rattle to cages of the gatekeepers. Though it may be important to remain polite, it does not mean being quiet, and more so being when an injustice has occurred.

We need to be brave enough to be a disrupter of the status quo: as we run the risk of being complicit because “silence means consent”.
