Inspirational Quote for 30 January 2023

by | Jan 30, 2023 | Inspiration

Have you ever walked by a mirror, stopped and scrutinised your appearance, and then started to focus on all of your flaws?

All too often, we continually spotlight our flaws, almost to the exclusion of everything else – such as the things about us that are beautiful and unique, or good character, friendly nature, etc. The fact of the matter is that we are our worst critics, but in doing so, we can erode our self-esteem.

If, however, you are hoping that others will validate you so that you feel good about yourself, this is ill-advised. Those around you tend to be focused on living their own lives and may not be available or inclined to boost your self-esteem when you needed it. In other words, it is your job to do so.

However, becoming your own advocate or cheerleader often requires you to unlearn the programming you have been telling yourself for years, even decades. The key is to practise and to catch yourself and immediately correct the old and negative messages that tend to automatically kick in. But consistency is crucial.

Throughout the day, we invite you to revisit this quote. Below are a few questions you may wish to ask yourself, and those who journal may find them especially useful:

  • What are the flaws that I readily tend to focus on?
  • How might I reprogramme the negative messages I tell myself?

Best wishes and have a great day!!
